I’m an animal lover so you can imagine my thrill when I realised the country I’ve moved to allows animals inside restaurants, taxis, doctor surgeries, trains... virtually any public venue. Pups in pubs, birds in banks and cats in cafes. I’m in heaven, or so I believe, right? Wrong. As an animal lover I’m now quite distraught to see that pets here are not their owner’s best friends, they are their owner’s best accessory (depending on that day’s outfit of course.
You don’t want to be seen in red pants and a brown poodle, no no no.)
I’ve passed a number of stores that I thought sold baby accessories and upon closer inspection revealed themselves to be pet accessories, of the most extreme! The dogs here get around in hand bags (especially designed) or their own ‘prams’. It would be awful if their designer outfits were to be soiled on the ground when walking so they are kept away from all things dirty.
The flavour of the month is brown poodle. I’ve seen a few schnauzers but I think they must be last year’s colour as they’re owners tend to hide them rather than wear them proudly. How embarrassing to be seen in last season’s dog!
Some mornings as I walk along the roadside with my own pram I see groups of owners meeting up and allowing their dogs some social time, which I think is very generous in light of the fact that everyone here lives in apartments.
Most distressing of all is how early they are sold in the pet stores. I know in Australia there are laws stopping animals being sold before six weeks of age but here it looks like they’ve just popped out of the womb, been cleaned up and stuck in a cage on display. Makes me want to ‘awwwww’ and cry at the same time.
So if you hear any rumours of a crazy white woman breaking into pet shops and releasing/stealing all the animals...it just might be yours truly.
That's all

Love it!! Perhaps you could up the ante and get yourself a Cheetah or Python? Could be the next big hit! Just make sure you pick a colour that goes with your nail polish... xo
